Red One packs more Hollywood faces into its main cast, Chris Evans has joined Dwayne Johnson in the upcoming Christmas action movie for Amazon Prime Video. Directed by Jake Kasdan (Jumanji), the project was hatched from an original story by Hiram Garcia, president of the production at Seven Bucks Productions, after being acquired by the digital platform in a tight bidding competition.
Filming will take place this year with the American filmmaker leading the production and with the screenplay by Chris Morgan, a film writer who has previously worked with Seven Bucks Productions for films in the Fast and Furious film franchise. The story is described as an action-adventure comedy that will explore a new universe in the Christmas movie genre.
Johnson and Seven Bucks Productions representatives Hiram and Dany Garcia will produce the Amazon Original Film. Jake Kasdan will also have to produce credit through his company, The Detective Agency, alongside Melvin Mar Sky Salem Robinson and Chris Morgan.
In June of last year, Dwayne Johnson confirmed that he was involved in the title, which is expected to be released in December 2023. The actor, also known as The Rock, will work with Kasdan again after acting in Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle (2017) and Jumanji: the next level (2019), installments in which he starred alongside Karen Gillan, Kevin Hart, and Jack Black. Recently, he celebrated the success of Red Alert, the most-watched movie on Netflix to date and also the most expensive in the entire history of the streaming service.
For his part, Chris Evans closed a stage as Captain America with Avengers: Endgame, and ventured into other successful titles such as Knives Out, Free Guy and will soon give voice to Buzz Lightyear in the Pixar animated film, as well as again be directed by the Russo brothers for The Gray Man, a spy story. Additionally, it was confirmed that he will star in and produce a biopic of veteran actor Gene Kelly that is still in development.
In Shawn Levy's comedy with Ryan Reynolds, both stars were part of the cast but had never co-starred in a proposal for the cinema before. Red One will be the first to bring them together to work side by side, and this can only be seen from Amazon Prime Video in 2033.
