Another television production of the DC Comics universe will be born from The Suicide Squad, the team of villains and antiheroes that James Gunn reverted after David Ayer's original film was released in 2016.

With the successful launch of Peacemaker, starring John Cena, it seems that HBO Max has a great interest in the characters that the American filmmaker brought to the big screen. Who will it be this time?

In an interview with Deadline, the also director of Guardians of the Galaxy confessed that he is developing a new project for the streaming platform and that the plot will be directly connected to the film.

“Now we are working on something else, another TV series that is connected to that universe. I can't say anything,"

Gunn said, adding that it will have a very different style to the Peacemaker plot:

"It's connected to that universe, and I don't think it's going to be in the same genre as Peacemaker, it's not going to be as comedic, but It will be set in the same universe.”

For now, it is unknown what his new proposal for the small screen will consist of and which character it could focus on: the possibilities are debated between Bloodsport, Ratcatcher II, and King Shark.

A few weeks ago, there was speculation about the possibility of seeing the Portuguese actress Daniela Melchior back in her role for her fiction with Cena, but she quickly denied from her social networks that she had participated in the filming.

Will there be a second season of Peacemaker?

Regarding the great reception of Peacemaker in the HBO Max catalog, director James Gunn did not rule out working on new episodes in the future. However, the decision remains solely in the digital service based on how the performance of the title has been during its premiere, which, as recalled, is weekly like other original productions of the company.

Peacemaker, with John Cena returning as him, is something of a continuation of the events of The Suicide Squad. In the latter's post-credits scene, it is revealed that he is not actually dead after being shot by Bloodsport (Idris Elba). So, while he is recovering from his injuries, he is recruited by Amanda Waller (Viola Davis) for another mission in which he will share adventures with a new team.

In addition to the former WWE wrestler leading the main cast, Steve Agee, Danielle Brooks, Robert Patrick, Jennifer Holland, Freddie Stroma, and Chukwudi Iwuji star. All eight episodes of the first season were written and directed by Gunn, who came up with the spin-off while shooting the film.

It is the first television series that originates in the DC Extended Universe (DCEU), and the one that opened a door to see more of these comic book characters on TV in the same way that Marvel Studios has been doing with its narratives derived from cinema.
